The Simplicity of Faith

Just a reflection on a simple truth He's been calling me back to recently…

Sometimes we make things too complicated. We busy ourselves with Bible studies, prayers, ministry, memorizing Scripture, going to church, doing the right things, saying the right things…

And yet we still lack whatever it was we thought we were going after.

Sometimes.

Of course we should do all those things – out of love for God and with honor toward Him. But sometimes I find myself doing those things without even thinking about my relationship with Him. Or I rush ahead in ministry doings without even waiting for Him to say, “Go.”

That’s when our faith walk becomes more complicated than it should. When our own selves get jumbled in with the loving, serving and worshiping God.

Acting in faith, loving people, doing God’s will, being blessed – it’s really not that complicated. We just have to remember there is only One thing. And when He is our focus, He shows us everything else we need to know…

You will keep him in perfect peace,
Whose mind is stayed on You,
Because he trusts in You.

Isaiah 26:3

Delight yourself in the Lord, and He shall give you the desires of your heart.
Psalm 37:4

Now it happened as they went that He entered a certain village; and a certain woman named Martha welcomed Him into her house. And she had a sister called Mary, who also sat at Jesus’ feet and heard His word. But Martha was distracted with much serving, and she approached Him and said, “Lord, do You not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Therefore tell her to help me.” And Jesus answered and said to her, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and troubled about many things. But one thing is needed, and Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken away from her.”
Luke 10:38-42
